Groundwater treatment and in situ bioremediation
We offer groundwater treatment and bioremediation solutions using air injection, pumping and biological remediation methods.
What is Groundwater treatment and in situ bioremediation?
Pump & Treat is a groundwater remediation method in which contaminated groundwater is pumped out of remediation wells and routed to above-ground treatment units. Depending on the composition and concentration of the contamination, the most suitable treatment technologies are selected, such as oil-water separation, filtration, activated carbon adsorption or other treatment methods. After treatment, the water can be discharged or reused in line with the project conditions.
Air Sparging is an in situ remediation technology used to reduce contamination by volatile organic compounds and oil products in soil and groundwater. Compressed air is injected into the saturated soil zone through purpose-built injection wells, driving volatile contaminants from the liquid phase into the gas phase. At the same time, more oxygen becomes available, which can stimulate aerobic biodegradation.
In situ bioremediation is a remediation method that uses the natural ability of microorganisms to break down organic contaminants in soil and groundwater, including oil products. During remediation, the conditions the microorganisms need are optimised, such as the availability of oxygen, nutrients and other essential elements. Depending on the type of contamination and the site conditions, biostimulation or other biological remediation solutions can be used.
ORC (oxygen release compound) injection is an in situ remediation technology. Special compounds are injected into the contaminated soil and groundwater; on contact with water they gradually release oxygen, stimulating the natural biodegradation processes in which microorganisms break down oil products and other biodegradable organic contaminants. Greater oxygen availability improves the conditions for aerobic biodegradation and helps lower contaminant concentrations. ORC technology provides a long-lasting oxygen supply to the remediation zone.
