Challenge
State institutions needed to strengthen a common approach to identifying, documenting and investigating cases of environmental contamination, particularly those involving hazardous waste. Differing experience and interpretation of legislation, along with insufficient cooperation, hindered effective action and the gathering of evidence.
-
Solution
The training programme strengthened practical skills in identifying contamination cases, sampling and risk assessment. Participants learned a common methodology, analysed real situations and case law, and improved inter-institutional cooperation for more effective action in cases of environmental violations.
-
Result
The training prepared more than 50 specialists from the State Environmental Service, the State Police, the State Revenue Service, the Prosecution Office and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (VARAM). Participants reached a common understanding of the handling of environmental crime and significantly strengthened inter-institutional cooperation in practice.
