Ecotoxicological sediment testing in the Daugava River

   Challenge

   Sediment samples had to be collected in the turning basin of the Export Port, in the Daugava River, to obtain representative material for subsequent ecotoxicological testing. Working on water called for suitable sampling methods and equipment.

   Solution

   Sediments were sampled at eight points in the Daugava, using a submersible sediment grab. The samples were handed over to an accredited laboratory for ecotoxicological testing.

3. 03

   Result

   An ecotoxicological study of the sediments was carried out at eight sampling points. Based on the accredited laboratory's results, an investigation report was prepared, compiling and assessing the data on the sediments' ecotoxicological properties and their possible impact on the aquatic environment.
