Contaminated site investigation and remediation guidelines
Development of guidelines for contaminated site investigation and remediation
Project structure
-
Challenge
Contaminated site investigation and remediation processes in Latvia were uneven, as institutions and businesses lacked a common methodology. A shared understanding of investigation requirements, data quality, risk assessment and the setting of remediation targets needed to be strengthened to ensure a consistent approach.
-
Solution
The project developed detailed guidelines on investigation methods, sampling, data analysis and the selection of remediation solutions. International practice was compiled, risk criteria were defined and a common methodology was established that improves the quality of decisions and the efficiency of remediation processes.
-
Result
The guidelines provide a common approach to the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites, improving data quality and decision-making. Institutions and businesses gained clear criteria for risk assessment and for setting remediation targets, significantly strengthening shared understanding and cooperation in practice.
